Certified Patient Account Specialist (CPAS)
MDHBA’s CPAS certification is designed specifically for healthcare representatives who handle the responsibility for patient balance accounts. As healthcare collection professionals, MDHBA and its members understand that it’s hard to find training and education for this specific job function. CPAS provides educational material to help our members’ clients train their patient balance account representatives. The program also provides professional recognition for these representatives through CPAS certification. To receive the designation, candidates must be employed by the client of a recognized healthcare/AR company and successfully complete an online exam. To help individuals prepare, MDHBA provides a study guide that is available for download on the association’s web site. An optional seminar is also available. CPAS certificants must re-certify every two years.
You must pay the exam fee ($55 MDHBA Agency Member Clients/$85 Non-MDHBA Agency Member Clients) and earn a passing grade (80%) on the CPAS test to earn your professional certification. BEFORE signing on for the exam, we strongly encourage you to view and download the CPAS Study Guide.
MDHBA Members: Click here to access Publications and Documents in the Member Resource Center (you must be logged in). There, you can download a Word Document that can be edited to announce CPAS to your clients.
Exam Registration/Access Instructions: If you are logged into the MDHBA web site, please logout before registering for the exam. After selecting Register for CPAS Exam below, you will access a registration form. Complete and submit the form and your payment option. Once your form is received and processed (may take up to 48 hours) you (or the agency representative registering you to take the exam) will receive an e-mail from MDHBA with instructions for accessing the CPAS exam through our technology partner, ExamBuilder, as well as login information for the students who will be taking the exam.
Because of our partnership with ExamBuilder, you will now benefit from several enhanced exam features. These include immediate feedback on pass/fail, as well as the opportunity to review the questions you missed. Additionally, exam security has been enhanced because the system draws randomly from a pool of questions to create a unique exam each time it is taken. If you do not pass the exam, you are automatically scheduled to re-take the exam up to five times and DO NOT need to register again through the MDHBA web site. You simply login with your Student ID and Password to the ExamBuilder site. Please call MDHBA if you have any questions.
